Imagine a day when you discover that the classroom computer has gone missing. Write a story about what happened to the computer. Who might have taken it, and why? How do you and your friends solve the mystery? Be creative and include a beginning, middle, and end in your story.

Level 1: The student writes a story with limited effectiveness. The narrative structure is unclear with a beginning, middle, or end that may be missing. There is little to no development of characters or plot.

Level 2: The student writes a story with some effectiveness. The narrative has a recognizable structure with a beginning, middle, and end, though some elements may be underdeveloped. There is an attempt to develop characters and plot.

Level 3: The student writes a story with considerable effectiveness. The narrative is structured with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Characters and plot are developed, and there is a logical progression of events.

Level 4: The student writes a story with a high degree of effectiveness. The narrative is well-structured with a clear and engaging beginning, middle, and end. Characters and plot are well-developed, and the story is creative and coherent.

Level 4.5: The student writes a story with a very high degree of effectiveness. The narrative is exceptionally well-structured and engaging with a vivid beginning, middle, and end. Characters and plot are thoroughly developed, and the story is exceptionally creative and coherent.
